ARTIST SUBMISSION FORM

Thank you for your interest in Spotlight on Birmingham - a new initiative designed to support and elevate emerging musical talent in our city. We’re genuinely excited to hear from the incredible artists creating music in and around Birmingham.

All applications will go through a fair, inclusive, and thorough selection process. Our panel will carefully review each submission and select six artists to take part in a professional video recording session at Sansom Studios.

The deadline for applications is 30th September 2025. We aim to notify all applicants of the outcome by 15th November 2025. You’ll receive more information after submitting your application.

👤 Who Can Apply

✔️ Age

You must be between 18-35 years old.

📍 Location
🌱 Stage of Career
You must be based in or have strong ties to Birmingham.
You must be an emerging artist, defined as having less than 5 years of professional experience in the music industry. This means you have not yet signed a major label deal or consistently earned a full-time income from your music.
🎵 Genre
We welcome applications from all musical styles and backgrounds - whether you're a rapper, jazz musician, singer-songwriter, producer, or part of a band, we want to hear from you!

🌍 Our Commitment to Inclusivity

We are committed to creating a music community that is diverse, inclusive, and representative of Birmingham’s vibrant cultural landscape.

Spotlight on Birmingham actively encourages applications from artists who are underrepresented in the music industry - including those from ethnically diverse backgrounds, working-class or low-income households, LGBTQ+ communities, disabled artists, and anyone who feels their voice isn’t currently being heard.

We believe that great music can come from anywhere - and that authenticity, creativity, and passion matter more than polish or profile.

If you have a unique sound, a story to tell, and a hunger to grow as an artist, this is your moment. We want to hear from you.

🎶 About You and Your Music

📲 Links to Your Music and Socials

Please share any links that give us a sense of who you are as an artist.

These could include videos of you performing, demo tracks, freestyles, live clips, or music-related content from platforms like Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, etc.

You can also add your social media handles so we can see more of your work - and tag you if you’re selected.

If you don’t have anything online yet, that’s totally fine - just make sure you upload a performance video in the section below.

Access Needs

Let us know if there’s anything we can do to support your access to the project, studio, or communication.

🎥 Upload a Video of You Performing

This is the most important part of your application.

Please upload a raw, live performance video that shows you or your group performing your music. This doesn’t need to be high-budget or professionally filmed - a clear phone video is absolutely fine.

We’re not judging video quality - we just want to get a real sense of what you do.

✅ What we’re looking for:

  • A performance of an original piece or a uniquely reimagined cover that represents your sound

  • You (or your band) clearly visible in the video

  • Live or live-recorded – no lip-syncing or over-edited visuals

  • Solo artists, duos, or bands – all welcome

  • Recorded in any setting: your room, a rehearsal, a session, a live show, etc.

❗ Please avoid:

  • Just audio with a still image

  • Music videos where we can’t see you performing

  • Highly produced content that hides your live sound

If you're unsure whether a video is suitable, just do your best – we’d rather see something simple and real than nothing at all.
